Edwin Allen dismissed their rivals to win the Penn Relays Championship of America 4×100-metre relays in a new meet record at the Franklin Field stadium today.
The team of Serena Cole, Tina Clayton, Brandy Hall and Tia Clayton, running in that order, clocked 43.18 seconds to erase their 2019 time of 43.62.
Hydel was second in 43.69, while third went to St Jago in 46.09.
Tina Clayton was happy with lowering the record.
“We are very happy because we wanted to break the record and we got it,” she said.
“I think that we executed well because our baton changes were good and so I know that my coach is happy about that,” Clayton said.
The victory was the Michael Dyke-coached team’s second of the day, this after they had earlier won the 4x800m relay in eight minutes 54.58 seconds.
Holmwood, who were one of the favourites to win in the event, failed to finish the race after their first leg runner fell. Cuthberson from North Carolina was second in 9:04.67 with third going to Union Catholic in 9:06.14.
